Hi and welcome! Somehow I picked up a bunch of new followers this week, so just a quick introduction if you’re new here: I’m a freelance photographer in DC who loves cycling, books, coffee, travel, podcasts, and all things photo-related. So what you’ll get here represents a grab bag of those interests. Every other month, I tend to go on a bit of a tear and write something a little longer: past topics include the business of photography, a Dear Young Photographer post, a question about how many friends I really need, or my thoughts on running off to cover conflict in a place like Ukraine. So I hope you stick around for the ride!
I love listening to thoughtful photographers talk about their work and process, so I really enjoyed hearing Adam Ferguson on A Small Voice podcast. I also look forward to the return of his Substack, someday. It was one of the best out there.
I’m learning about Boris Mikhailov’s Ukrainian Diary. He’s described as a proto-punk photographer. He has an instinctively independent attitude and way of looking at things, a resolutely DIY approach, and a very lo-fi aesthetic. Love.
Welcome to America, Omer Khan. Can’t wait to see what you see here.
YES to traveling to more places based solely on their writers.
It’s summer, which means it’s time to pickle everything.
