Here are 5 things I was looking at and loving this week:
Let’s start with something topical. This photo of Zohran Mamdani on IG by Sinna Nasseri, aka @strange.victory, is so good. His Zohran photos in VF are great, too.
What started with smoking weed and marveling at a bird guidebook evolved into an amazing documentary1, following two brothers’ entry into the passionate and hilarious world of competitive bird-watching. 10/10 recommended!
For those who’ve been here for a while, you know I’m a huge fan of Avery Trufleman’s podcast Articles of Interest2. Now, no one has ever called me fashionable, nor am I particularly into clothing, but the way Avery approaches things is fascinating. Hell, she had me at POCKETS! The season on AMERICAN IVY was riveting. And a new season just started up, and it’s all about GEAR.
On 11/6, my friend Lauren Walsh is hosting a webinar called Body and Mind in the Field — Safety for Visual Journalists, along with badass LA Times photojournalist Marcus Yam. It offers a comprehensive look at how photographers can stay safe—physically and psychologically—while working in today’s unpredictable media landscape. It’s free, but you need to reserve a spot in advance.
DC news anchors turned it up on Halloween with an epic nod to Salt-N-Pepa.
Trust me. It’s 1) free on YouTube and 2) already got 1.8M views.
And Substack! If you like the podcast, it’s a must. She posts great photos and documentation of whatever she’s doing a deep dive into.

I just had to come back to thank you for that link to that bird watcher documentary. What an excellent piece! Thank you for sharing these gems with us!
