As 2023 is winding down, I’m starting to look at holiday cookie recipes because… it’s time. If you have any faves, please send them my way (though this chewy Earl Gray sugar cookie is the reigning champ!). I’m also thinking about doing an upcoming post on some photobooks I loved looking at this year — which will hopefully be of interest to some out there. Stay tuned for that.
Otherwise, here are 5 things I was looking at and loving this week:
A couple of weeks ago I linked to the powerful Washington Post piece “Terror on Repeat — A Rare Look at the Devastation Caused by AR-15 Shootings.” Which if you haven’t seen, you need to. And if you haven’t sent something to your lawmakers encouraging them to take a hard look at it and themselves, you should. And I’m bringing it back up now to say, the NPPA recently started a podcast called The Visual Voice, and the very first episode is a conversation with Kainaz Amaria and Nick Kirkpatrick, two of the visual editors at the Post, thoughtfully talking about the whys and hows of this story. It’s worth a listen.
Speaking of podcasts: I recently discovered a podcast from 2015, that I’d never heard before, that named me their photographer of the week. And while I’m belatedly honored, what I especially love is the debate at the beginning on how to pronounce my last name. You guys got it! It’s pronounced: LITTLE.
“I think we all get caught up in what we think we should be doing rather than what we’re actually doing.” There are so many good quotes in this interview with photographer Jason Nocito, but I’ll just pick one more and you can read the rest for yourself. “Photography has become more vibey. It's not really how to make a picture; it's vibezzzz.”
I’ve gone down a few coffee-related rabbit holes recently, but a friend who might be even more of a coffee brewing geek than I sent me this app and I’m not mad.
I recently discovered Gioncarlo Valentine has a Substack, which I totally dig.
You’re awesome, M. Lyttle (Little). Thanks for the podcast shout-out!! 🫶🏼
