Here are 5 things I was looking at and loving this week:
I started seeing Twitter tributes to Jonathan Gold a week ago, marking the 5th anniversary of his death. Gold was the Anthony Bourdain of Los Angeles. He was the first food critic to win a Pulitzer Prize. As a journalist at the L.A. Times, he prided himself in writing about the people and culture behind the mom-and-pop restaurants. More specifically, I credit City of Gold, the documentary on him, for teaching me how to approach an incredibly overwhelming, sprawling city when we first moved there, and ultimately how to (kinda) love it. We started exploring neighborhoods by food, which was a great way to make the city seem more manageable while serving as a way to help me understand the hows and whys of the people who lived there. One tribute I saw mentioned his gravestone which has the perfect epitaph. So I had to find a picture of it (see above!). #tacosforever

The Nerdette podcast has some great recommendations for what to watch and eat this Summer. I’m down for all of these tasty recommendations. If you have any of your own, I’m all ears… email me or drop a line or a link in the comments.
