I’m in my happy place right now: an absolutely incredible Tour de France is winding down. The always-exciting Women’s World Cup just started up. I’m reading again. I’m even sleeping a little bit more (yay for small miracles!).
Here are 5 things I was looking at and loving this week:
Speaking of the Tour… Did you know the Tour de France started one newspaper’s gimmick to increase circulation and woo advertisers? Fascinating, nerdy history.
I finally watched Marcel the Shell With Shoes On. You should, too. (It’s on Hulu.)
“It takes away the sun. It takes away the air. It’s claustrophobic.” — filmmaker Odveig Klyve’s nod to Slow TV and offers this ugly, beautiful visual meditation on cruise ships taking over her Norwegian town
Barack Obama just published his Summer Reading List and his Summer Playlist. I, like many, look forward to these, because I always discover great new books and songs. But it’s led some skeptics to wonder if Obama really curates them himself.
As we weigh in on when to stop posting photos of our kid on social media, or at least stop showing his face, and just how much info to put out there publicly when he has no say in the matter right now, I came across this interesting read: Influencer Parents and The Kids Who Had Their Childhood Made Into Content.
Thank you for sharing the Odveig Klyve piece.
Watching that city slowly back into a village is so stunning (and horrifying).
My partner loved Marcel so much, I had to find out if we could keep one... turns out we could. I bought her this for her birthday. :)
