Here are five things I was looking at and loving this week:
When the pandemic hit I put my gym membership on hold and used that money to buy a really nice bike. Needless to say, I got really into biking — it’s a great way to explore my city, get exercise and meet people — and I never went back to the gym. So I can’t recommend the Tour de France: Unchained documentary on Netflix enough. I totally binged it and learned a lot (for example: what an incredible team sport cycling those races at that level really is). The TdF just started up again last week, and that means 21 day-long stages over 23 days, leaving from Bilbao, Spain, and ending in Paris, France with the riders covering about 3,500km or 2,200mi total. And for me, it means starting my days with coffee and highlights from the previous day’s stage. And as always, I’m keeping an eye on the amazing husband-and-wife duo of Jered Gruber and Ashley Norris Gruber who are consistently blowing me away with their TdF coverage day after day.
“If you can acknowledge it and you can relax with it a little bit, very often it shortens its duration.” — Bruce Springsteen on surviving depression and his strategy for getting through the visitations of the darkness.
As Washington Post writer Sally Jenkins said on Twitter, “The story of this beautiful friendship is the richest subject I ever had the privilege of telling.” And Marvin Joseph’s beautiful portraits complement it so well. Legends all around.
Juvenile’s Tiny Desk Concert is giving me life. Esp. the strings on Back That Ass Up. There’s a good reason this video has over 2.5 million views already.
This is such cool eye candy. (No trees were harmed in the making of this art!)
