<rant> I try not to get political on here. I try to reserve this space for creativity, photography, and inspiration. But damn, the U.S. makes me angry. We’ll protect white folks from getting their feelings hurt learning about slavery and protect racist Confederate statues, we’ll argue about where trans folks should use the bathroom and ban them from playing sports, and we’ll ban young girls from talking about their periods, ban books about sex/gender/race, and ban songs about living in harmony — but we won’t ban assault rifles. We’ve sadly become a parody of ourselves. Our priorities are f*$%ed. How Can We Be a Country that Does This To Our Children? I wish everyone would watch this WaPo graphic illustration of what the bullet from an assault rifle does to a body. I wish all lawmakers gave a damn and would offer up something other than thoughts and prayers in the wake of yet another school shooting. Like they did in the UK. Or Austalia. </rant>
In other news, here are 5 things I was looking at and loving this week:
The Secret of Joe Biden’s Empty Picture Frame
Love this. A government pilot program in IRELAND is giving 2,000 artists $350 a week with no strings attached, allowing them to concentrate on creative pursuits.
What We Learn from Leafing Through Seed Catalogues
Fantastic interactive piece on the physics of how bicycles work. (via @kottke)
Linedancing to GoGo music. Alright… I dig this Texan hat tip to DC.
Get political! This stuff is infuriating. Thanks, Melissa!
