I’m thankful for a quiet week. I spent 5 days at a house in upstate NY with a friend, resting and recharging. I read. Listened to a lot of music. And tried to unplug. Watched the snow come down from a picture window. Walked in the woods with my dog. Even went sledding. Played cribbage and backgammon. Cooked and ate well. Visited the world’s largest kaleidoscope, which stands 60-feet tall and is in a converted grain silo. And I made a lot of photos on my iPhone.
These are some things I enjoyed reading and looking at this week:

I recently learned that style of Janet Jackson’s “Got ’Til It’s Gone” video is strongly indebted to the photographic style of South Africa’s Drum Magazine and Malian photographer Malick Sidibé’s documentation of parties in the 1960s-70s. Mike Lim even sent me these great Tumblr posts he put together years ago highlighting some of the influences frame-by-frame.
