Of course, like all of you, I heard about the news of Elon Musk buying Twitter and I couldn’t help but think… what a great week not to be on Twitter.
I’m actually on the road (read: working) and thus not spending a lot of time online this week. And instead, I’ve been listening to a ton of great podcasts on my drives across the state of Mississippi and I’ve finished two audiobooks so far: Kristen Radtke’s “Seek You” and Abby Wambach’s “Wolfpack.”
So, in lieu of my typical photo-related news and quirky links, I wanted to point you in the direction of some other fine spaces bringing you great content. These are all newsletters that I subscribe to and really enjoy reading.
Eric Maierson’s Fave 5
It’s tight and well-curated with great links related to visual journalism & pop culture.
Austin Kleon’s 10 Things
The author of “Steal Like an Artist” is all about stoking creativity.
Colin Meloy’s Machine Shop
The Decemberists’ lead singer takes you inside a musical life. I love the Annotated Songs.
Liz Kuball’s Makes Sense
A photographer who writes long-form essays on movies, photo books, and more.
Andrea Bruce’s Down in the County
A great photographer doing weekly dispatches about her community in rural NC.
Lyz Lenz’s Men Yell At Me
I esp love the dingus of the week. This “sits at the intersection of patriarchy and politics.”
Ann Helen Petersen’s Culture Study
This former Buzzfeed Culture Writer is interesting & well-reported. Good takeovers, too.
Bryan Formhals’ Notes on Walking & Photography
It’s like walking through a meandering mind. I appreciate the journey he takes us on.
Ameena Rojee’s For the girls who go alone
Speaking of walking, Ameena has done some epic walks and takes us on the ups & downs.
Chris La Tray’s An Irritable Métis
A thoughtful writer who tackles social issues through an Indigenous lens.
Noah Kalina’s Newsletter #xxx
Known for taking a selfie every day for 22 years, Noah is prolific in everything he does.
Oh, and please feel free to drop some of your favorite podcasts, newsletters, and any audiobooks I definitely need to listen to in the comments here. I love being turned onto great new things.
