Here are 5 things I was looking at and loving this week:
DYK it was the 35th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope? And a tip of the hat to this gem: What did Hubble see on your birthday? (That’s my birthday image above: On April 17 in 2011 — Galaxy Cluster Abell 2261 — “The giant elliptical galaxy in the center of this image is the most massive and brightest member of galaxy cluster Abell 2261. More than a million light-years wide, the galaxy is about 10 times bigger than our Milky Way galaxy.” Pretty cool.
Moby just announced that he’s added 500 new songs to mobygratis.com — completely free, no strings attached, for anyone to use, any way, any how.
Austin Kleon’s tips for creative freedom include rebranding the word “amateur.” I loved this recent newsletter post from him On Sitting Around and Reading a Novel, and am leaving it here as a reminder to reread the comments when I’m looking for a recommendation. Here are 300+ of the last great novels folks read.
Maybe I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m getting older and lazier and don’t feel like searching my own newsletter archives for the answer… but regardless, I love Rob Stephenson’s Substack The Neighborhoods. He calls it “his photographic document of modern-day New York.” His most recent post is on the Bellerose (manor) neighborhood in Queens, which taught me about NYC’s greatest museum.
How are the tariffs going to impact you as a photographer? Cameras, film, lights…
LOVE the The Neighborhoods ‘stack!
I haven't been able to do any astrophotography this past winter season... seeing galaxies appear in my images is one of the greatest of joys, while also being one of the greatest of photographic technical challenges.
