I could talk about this week's news, but I won’t.
I’m going to spare you the think piece (or perhaps the rage piece) because I believe many of us feel similarly and are still stuck in one (or maybe multiple) of the stages of grief (I’m hovering between anger and depression, myself).
I will just say this, take care of yourselves and each other. Be a little kinder and more forgiving of others because they’re probably dealing with more of the same.
I’ll add, that in trying to take care of myself, I’m also trying not to be a hypocrite. To me, that means, actions over words. I am disgusted by billionaires with agendas. I left Twitter this week because I believe Elon Musk is toxic, and I don’t want to be complicit or supportive of a platform where bad behavior (esp. his own in undermining democracy) is so prevalent. I have vowed to stop shopping at Amazon and Whole Foods because Jeff Bezos is also not worth supporting after not allowing the Washington Post to endorse a candidate and then, dropping his endorsement after the election was called. Bezos was right about one thing though… Democracy Dies in Darkness. And he helped.
Stay sane, y’all.
I love this Langston Hughes poem on the resistance. In some small ways, it helps.
Here are 5 other things I was looking at and loving this week:
I’ve been thinking about how the media needs to do a better job of not being a mouthpiece or a propaganda machine while continuing to cover Trump. And here, Daniella Zalcman gets in my head and writes about Turning the Camera from Trump. “If we must continue to show Trump, show him as he really is.”
I just learned a new word — bibliotherapy. And I love everything about it.
I’ve been enjoying this In One Image series and wish they’d do more of it.
David Bowie + Annie Lennox + George Michael in the background = amazing
Absolute wizardry.
I really appreciate the actions you took: to leave Twitter and to avoid putting money in Jeff Bezos’ pockets. Take care…
Always moving forward. Thank you, M.
