I was having a similar conversation with a friend yesterday who lamented stagnant rates and fewer calls and also took a steady gig so he can keep doing what he loves. If you've got an organization that appreciates and values the work, even better. Kudos!
Excited for you. Thanks for sharing your news and perspective. I like my staff job, but right now it is exhausting and I've lacked the energy to freelance. I miss shooting for an audience, not just myself.
Congrats Melissa! They are soooo fortunate to have hired you! And kudos to your new boss recognizing the importance and Value of Visuals!! Yea! I love the rainbow photo! Who says group photos are ugly!??! :-)
Congrats on the new gig! All your reasons for transitioning into a new position totally resonated with me. For the past 10 years I've been a freelance family documentary photographer and dealing with trying to get money out of clients and all the time spent marketing rather than actually using my camera finally did me in - not to mention the irregularity of work/paychecks. I took a full time job in May doing PR photography for three public school districts my county and I freaking love it! Here's to constantly evolving!!
This is amazing! I'm kind of a currency nerd and that's soooo cool you got to photograph the IMF at Bretton Woods.
Wishing you all the best in this new chapter and thanks for writing what a lot of us are thinking about.
That’s good news! Congratulations on a staff job!
Perhaps that steady paycheck can help fund some personal projects you have been wanting to do.
With all the changes in technology, it has never been easier to self publish and get our images and projects out to the world.
Self published and self funded is my goal for 2025!
This is great! Congrats on the new gig!
