I made a quick trip to Saratoga Springs, NY last week to speak at a conference, and had to stop by Dia Beacon to read some truly preposterous artists’ statements and look at some incredibly banal things masquerading as art. I really do love art, mainly because it makes me question everything. Like how is this in a gallery? Why did someone make this? What on earth inspired them? How high were they?
Here are 5 things (besides modern art) that I was looking at and loving this week:
Hannah Yoon captures this moment we’re all feeling perfectly in her newsletter this week, as she writes about “Finding myself beyond my work and what I make.”
Looking at: Occupy Columbia by Nina Berman
Photojournalists Carolyn Cole and Lynsey Addario, who’ve spent their careers covering conflicts, weigh in on what Civil War got right (and sometimes wrong)
I’d listen to an entire album of this. #rageagainstthetoddlers
Funny! The way you describe this art made me laugh out loud.
I really wanna know more about these artist statements. How much passive voice was used?
